Fire engine red.

Every month's gallery with my 'Year in the Life' (YITL) family has its own theme colour. Last month's was red.

Toward the end of September, on a clear warm Saturday, the United Way and Kingston Fire and Rescue teamed up for a fundraising day full of fun for families. You could try your hand at putting out a car on fire, walk through an inflated house to learn about fire safety, take a ride in a firetruck, and run a fitness course fit for a fire-person-in-training. And I was there with my camera, ready for documentary photography.

Why was I there? Because my YITL family was there. Chris (the dad) is a fireman. He donned his uniform and lifted children into and out of firetrucks and performed other fireman related duties. Such as guiding firetrucks, levitating, and generally looking cool while ready to rescue. The boys had a good go at the multiple activities. The fire suits were a tad big. The sleeves hung off their arms like slack hoses. Jacklyn (the mom) proudly watched on while they ran the training course not once but twice, bettering their personal best times the second time (I think).

There was a fire dummy in the middle of the parking lot. His feet were tied with duct tape. I cannot remember why.

This was session nine of twelve. Only three more sessions remain with this family (sad face). You can check out the photographs from their January and February sessions. I hope to blog the rest of their sessions soon, so stay tuned.

Now, I am looking for YITL families for next year. And if you register before Christmas this year, you will have a year's worth of photos and a calendar and album and prints of your favourite moments of the year, all before December 2018. Gift ideas? Just sayin'.

Enjoy a small sampling of September's photographs below, and put yourself in these guys' shoes. Or even better, imagine if I was your personal photographer for the year. What kinds of things would you get up to for me to capture?

If you would like to book a documentary family photography session, please get in touch. I can help recommend the type of package that will be best for your family.
